Leadership is seeing the problem and BEING the solution. An effective leader can leverage the strengths of his/her team members to accomplish a common goal.
As I sit at my summer job (administrative assistant for Macy's, which I never left) I look around the office and I see many items that symbolize effective leadership. Leaders aren't "one trick pony's". Leaders have to be many things to many people. They must find the right balance of coaching and motivation in order to maximize the output for each person in which they lead. The six items, pictured above, that I saw which symbolize leadership are as follows:
A red high five pen -- This pens reminds me of someone raising their hand to volunteer for a task. A leader cannot do everything by him/herself. They must be able to motivate people to get some work done.
A recognition card -- Everyone likes to be recognized for their efforts, whether its publically or privately. People want to know that their effort is seen and appreciated.
Computer screen -- Leaders must not only be somewhat tech savvy, but it's imperative that they remain organized!
Telephone -- COMMUNICATION! Communicating with your team is key for the common goal to be accomplished. No communication = room for error and failure.
Hand Sanitizer -- A leader must keep healthy, motivated, and energized people around him/herself at all times. Unhealthy people are toxic and can thwart any effort. No DEBBIE-DOWNERS!
Fire Extinguisher -- With leadership comes the responsibility of putting out fires. Everyday isn't going to be easy, but hey, it's not supposed to be easy. YOU'RE THE LEADER! Not everyone can be trusted to stop things from totally falling apart, put things back together, and cultivate the situation until it becomes healthy again -- an effective leader can do this and so much more.
