Phase 5
Conferring with Colleagues and Student Focus Groups
The Project
The goal of my ImagineIT project is to increase student engagement and retention with all of my students, but specifically with my diverse learners. To accomplish this, I am implementing multimodal strategies in order to hit the preferred learning style of my students. Each day we use our chromebooks, have small group support time, and receive whole group instruction during the 90 minute block. During the whole group time, I vary how the students interact with the lesson. I am introducing strategies into my teaching repertoire that are new to me. We are including physical learning and kinesthetic learning in order to increase engagement and retention. My initial thoughts were that I wanted to flip my classroom but I haven’t implemented that as consistently as I would have liked to do.
Conferring with the Colleagues
When I introduced my project to my colleagues at our weekly faculty meeting they were very supportive of what I was trying to accomplish. They encouraged me to keep really good documentation of what worked and what needed to be improved upon. They gave several suggestions on things I could implement but I had already considered most of their ideas. There was one suggestion to maybe try shifting one class to a project based curriculum. This piqued my curiosity but I know this will be a larger undertaking than I’m ready for at this time.
Conferring with the Students
I interviewed 2 students to get their feedback. I have attached the video.
